The general objective of the METALIA project (“Enabling Technologies for the Implementation of Artificial Intelligence in the value chain of Additive Manufacturing of new metal alloys”) is to strengthen the capacities of the Spanish industrial fabric through the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for the optimisation of the value chain of additive manufacturing (AM) of new metallic materials: design, manufacturing, post-processes and life cycle analysis; as well as the validation of the AI tools developed in prototypes of different industrial sectors, mainly in applications of industrial biotechnology, aeronautics, space, industrial, among others, increasing the possibilities of industrialisation of additive manufacturing thanks to automated quality control, improved productivity, and the expansion of materials usable by the technology, contributing to boost the competitiveness of Spanish industry. In addition, the 4-year TransMissions 2023 initiative project aims at the effective collaboration between the companies that form the CDTI cluster and the research centres of the AEI cluster, favouring an environment that favours the generation of scientific results towards advanced levels of technological maturity thanks to a correct transfer between scientific research and technological development.

The project belongs to the call of the “science and innovation missions” programme within the framework of the 2023 Transmissions initiative, an action carried out in collaboration between the CDTI and the State Research Agency (AEI), which coordinates funding for groups of research and knowledge dissemination organisations and groups of companies that collaborate for the joint development of a coordinated R&D action that responds to the challenges identified in the thematic priorities (Missions) defined in the call. Project funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the State Research Agency and the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation E.P.E. (CDTI).
